Offered for your consideration is a previously owned Montblanc Patron of the Art Pope Julius II fountain pen with original box and booklet.
Launched in 2005 the Edition Patron of Arts Pope Julius II, limited to 4810 fountain pens world-wide, has a sumptuous gold-chased design on top of a cream-coloured base. It is crowned by a destinctive cap, symbolising the tiara of the Pontifex Maximus, and is embellished with an 18-karat gold nib, which is engraved with the seal of Julius II.
Pope Julius II entered the Vatican in 1503 as the new Pontifex Maximus, and during his ten-year papacy worked successfully to safeguard the church state and unity of Italy. During his pontificate, the greatest patron in the history of the Church made Rome the centre of the Italian High Renaissance. He not only initiated Bramante's plans for the reconstruction of St. Peter's Cathedral but aso provided the financial support for Michelangelo's world-famous ceiling fresco in the Sistine Chapel.
With its composition of gold-plated laticework on a cream-coloured lacquered background, the Patron of Art Edition Pope Julius II recalls the colours of the papal clothing. On the Edition 1556 the filigree latticework is made of 750 solid gold and the guilloched lacquer background shimmers in a luxuriant maroon. The cap head is a masterful reflection of the tiara, the headdress of the Pontiff. The 18k gold nib bears the finely engraved emblem of the Pope, the coat of arms of Pope Julius II, who, like hardly any other before or after him, led the clergy and was a Patron of the Arts.
The pen has been previously inked but in excellent cosmetic condition with minimal visible signs of exterior wear from previous ownership.
