Kokichi Mikimoto's fascination with pearls started at a young age. Frustrated by their laws and rareness, he sought out an alternative method to source more perfect pearls. After purchasing an oyster farm in the late 1800s, the Japanese entrepreneur created the world’s first cultured pearl and is subsequently credited for starting the cultured pearl industry at large. Over 100 years later, Mikimoto’s mission to “adorn the necks of all women around the world with pearls” continues to be realized through his brand; which not only offers necklaces, but also brooches, pendants, earrings, rings, and bracelets. The distinctive Mikimoto style was carefully curated by combining metalworking and manufacturing techniques from around the world. This continues to distinguish the brand's classic and modern designs from others in the pearl industry.
